psalm-139-fearfully-wonderfully-made-scripture

You are fearfully and wonderfully made. The incredible freedom and the warm comfort that the words of Psalm 139 bring to my heart are so treasured. God reaches out to each and every one of us in that passage and gives us purpose, worth, and a love that we cannot comprehend. He makes us whole and complete. We are not here on this earth by happenstance, created with no purpose and without thoughtful detail.

"For You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. .  My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
the days that were ordained for me,
when as yet there was not one of them."

| Psalm 139:13-16 |

You were handcrafted, thoughtfully designed, and uniquely knit together by God. You are wonderfully made. You are whole and beautiful. How encouraging is that! In a culture so focused on physical beauty it is easy to lose sight of what it really means to be a woman, and more importantly, a woman of God, created in His image. In Genesis 2:22 it says: "The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man..”. That is truly beautiful. God fashioned her, as He has fashioned you and I. The word used in Genesis 2:22 for the fashioning of the woman is banah. This word is used in scripture to describe the making of a temple, or forms of art. As an artist would carefully create a sculpture so too we have been carefully sculpted by God; sculpted in His image, and given tremendous worth.

So on those days when the world says you're not enough, remember, you were hand crafted with purpose and love, knit together perfectly and uniquely, by a God that loves you so deeply He gave Himself up for you; pouring Himself out on the cross, bearing the weight of your sin, and conquering death that you might live eternally with Him. He did this for us all so that we might have eternal life. He would have done it for only you. That is how much you are worth. That is how much you are loved.

I hope this encourages your heart today as it has encouraged mine. Live today to the fullest! You are loved. You are known. Have a beautiful Monday, sweet friends.

Happy Monday! This week is Water Festival week in our historic downtown. There is a craft market in the afternoons and food and music in the evenings. It is so lively! Little children skip along with their parents to the evening festivities in the waterfront park, delicious aromas drift down the sidewalk from the restaurants, and happy music fills the entire park. It has been so so hot this week. The air is thick with humidity, the sun blankets the ground with lava like heat, and the air rushes through the streets with warm fury. It is the epitome of summer.

I've been doing my best to keep cool ( by means of ice cream!! ) and happy summer dresses. I picked up this super comfy Pinwheel Swing Dress from LOFT, and let me tell you, it. is. heaven. I said it on Instagram and I will say it again: It is like yoga pants.. but so much better! Don't get me started about the navy suede booties from Sole Society. They're blue. They're suede. They have TASSELS. Sole Society has my heart.

I been playing around with color lately. I truly adore lavender. I couldn't resist this lavender & maple watch from JORD. I'm completely in love with it. It has the sweetest little crystal time markers that catch the light. Anything that sparkles is perfection in my book. The lavender face is swoon worthy, and the maple wood that the watch band is made of has a feminine feel that adds to its overall elegance. This watch is my new summer accessory. It is beautiful and functional! The perfect combination.

I'm linking y'all up below so you can take a gander at the other amazing timepieces that JORD makes. Their men's watches are so cool. I think the men in my life will be getting some snazzy watches in their future!

THE KITTEN EYE

THE KITTEN EYE

Wednesday, July 15, 2015

Hello friends! I posted this soft cat eye ( or "kitten eye" as I like to call it ) on Instagram not too long ago. I just had to share a little tutorial on this soft feminine eye makeup. I really enjoy playing around with makeup. I have countless brushes, eye shadows, blushes, primers...
I confess right now though.. I never do my brows. That's one of the worst makeup sins, I know. I have a tendency to rub my eyebrows. That won't end well if I fill them in. Until I break that habit, my brows will remain sadly undefined. I'm embracing the natural look!

This soft cat eye look is my favorite right now. I'm on a bareMinerals kick. Everything about this look can be created with just a few great bareMinerals products.

|PRIME THE EYES.
I use bareMinerals brightening eye primer. This primer is everything! I get really bad creasing without primer, and this one is by far my favorite. It creates the perfect canvas. You can get it in a matte skin tone shade, but for this look I prefer the pearl finish for a little sheen. It will catch the light beautifully.
|APPLY HIGHLIGHT SHADOW.
You can use any soft/light pink shadow that you like. Shimmery shadow is better than matte because it will catch the light more and open the eye up. Apply this shade over the entire lid, concentrating it heavily along the lash line. Apply this shadow to the bottom waterline as well. This highlight is going to create the appearance of a full lid for those with hooded/partially hooded eyes. If you have a lovely defined crease naturally, this shadow will highlight your lid sublimely.

|PRESS LOWLIGHT INTO CREASE.
Adding a little warmth to the crease pulls it to the background. Warm shadows are you best friend if you have hooded eyes. Warm eye shadows help create the appearance of a true defined crease. I have partially hooded eyes, and this is my go-to. Rich burgundies, browns, purples, and blues will all work to create depth in the crease. For this look press a soft true brown shadow into just the crease. Leave the area along the lash line untouched by this shadow.
|DRAW A SOFT FLICK.
With a true cat eye the flick is larger and extends quite a bit above the natural lash line at the corner of the eye. With this "kitten eye" just follow the your natural lash line; drawing a small soft flick from the outer corner of the eye upward toward the crease. The flick should come out toward the crease from the natural lash line. Do not overdraw the flick. Have an angle brush on hand to clean up the line if necessary. I used a charcoal eyeliner rather than a true black. If you need a little more definition use a true black.
|CURL LASHES AND APPLY MASCARA.
Unless you wear false lashes, you will need to apply two coats of mascara to the lashes. Grab your eyelash curler and plump those lashes up. Apply first coat of mascara and let dry. After the first coat dries, gently re-curl the lashes and apply second coat of mascara concentrating it heavily on the out corner lashes. The second curling will ensure that your natural lashes stay lifted. Apply a light coat of mascara to the bottom lashes.
Voila! With just five products you can have a soft cat eye. It still provides that sultry look, but with a softer feel. This look takes about five minutes to pop on, and it will last all day thanks to the eye primer!

What is your go-to makeup look?

COFFEE AND MILK FACE MASK

COFFEE AND MILK FACE MASK

Hello friends! You know me, always trying natural beauty treatments. It's tremendous fun! And I've found that natural treatments work far better than any drugstore product. As silly as it may seem ( and look ) this coffee/milk face mask is a treasure!

Most people drink coffee, including myself. Especially mocha frappes. I could get fat off of frappes.
( In case you missed it: 3 Ingredient Frappe Recipe ). Coffee can be used for more than a tasty delight. There are many varying uses. This simple coffee/milk face mask is my favorite!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

1 tablespoon of coffee grounds. ( I prefer a course grind )
1 1/2 tablespoons of milk. ( 2% or whole milk works wonderfully. Raw milk is even better! )

APPLICATION: Combine the coffee grounds and milk and mix well. The mixture will be thick but not pasty. If it's a little hard to work with just add a bit more milk. Let the mixture sit for 3-5 minutes. Gently massage the coffee/milk mixture onto face and let dry. This can be quite messy so make sure you apply over a sink. Leave mask on for 15-20 minutes ( or longer if you prefer )  and then rinse off with cold water, massaging gently to exfoliate any dead skin from  the face.  Your skin will be luminescent and baby soft! As an added bonus, the aroma from this mask is incredibly relaxing.

Note: You might feel a slight tingling on your face from the this mask, but it should not cause any irritation or discomfort whatsoever. I have never had any kind of a bad reaction from this mask, but please remove right away if you experience any discomfort. Everyone's skin is different and reacts differently to varying natural ingredients.

THE BENEFITS

Coffee is packed with antioxidants that help protect your skin and prevent premature signs of aging. Huzzah! These same antioxidants are calming to the skin, making coffee ideal for those with acne prone skin. Coffee, of course, has stimulating properties. When applied to the face it improves blood flow, leaving your skin brighter and more luminescent.

Milk contains lactic acid and Vitamins A and D. The lactic acid that naturally occurs in milk is a beta hydroxy acid ( Commonly known as salicylic acid. It is a multifunctional ingredient that addresses many of the systemic causes of blemishes ). It gently exfoliates the skin leaving it cashmere soft. Vitamin D is an antioxidant that helps promote skin cell growth. Beta-carotenes and retinol are both derived from vitamin A. They help improve the overall feel and look of skin.

So there you have it! This coffee face mask is so simple, but tremendously helpful to your skin. When I first tried it I noticed a difference in my skin after the first application. It reduced redness, brightened, and smoothed my skin to that baby soft texture we girls long for.
